Today’s beauty buzz: Hyaluronic acid

It’s become quite the cult favourite after stepping into the mainstream beauty world since The Ordinary’s launch of its own 2% Acid; Hyaluronic serums are now everywhere.

The hydrating acid focuses on retaining the skin’s moisture. Although it is famous for its hydrating properties, applying it on dry skin could make you even drier. The scientific reason for this is that it RETAINS aka holds on to moisture, so works well when you apply it on a damp face or just after an AHA/treatment, rather than on dry.

Another reason for applying Hyaluronic Acid after a treatment serum is because if applied first, it won’t allow other products to penetrate through the skin.

The ideal way to apply it is:

-          Cleanse

-          Tone

-          Any treatment serums or oil

-          Tone

-          Hyaluronic acid

-          Moisturise
