60 second rule

January is the best time to add something different into your routine, even if its something as small as the time you take to wash your face. It’s the month of new beginnings.

Washing my face is the best part of my day (wot a losa). It means I can finally get into bed and relax and I don’t have to go out of my house to face the world anymore. It’s like closing the door on the day.

Usually, I take off my makeup with micellar water, then use my Avene milk cleanser and wash my face for about 15-20 seconds. Literally just apply and rinse. However, in the last few weeks I’ve started doing something slightly different.

The ‘60-second rule’ for washing your face with your fingers has taken the internet by storm, and I would love to thank Nayamka Roberts-Smith of LABeautyologist, an esthetician for changing my life.

The amount of time you take to wash your face could very likely be the reason the products you’re using aren’t reaching their full potential!

I mean, think about it, it makes sense logically; when we go to get facials our face is rubbed with a product for a few minutes - and that gives us the desired look and feel of fresh skin.

Rubbing the product in for 60 seconds allows it to absorb properly into the skin, get into your pores, dig out the dirt and oil build up - giving it more time to do its magic.

So before you jump onto the next product because your current one still isn’t the holy grail you’ve been looking for, how about you wash your face for 60 seconds for a week and see the difference!

"The internet is OBSESSED with the #60SecondRule." Cosmo Magazine's words! Not mine. The 60 Second Rule is an original skincare tip I developed to help clients get the most out of their expensive cleansers. Cleansing your face (with your fingers) for 60 seconds allows the ingredients in the cleanser to actually work.
